Unfortunately our olive oil is completely sold out!
And the news for next year is not so good, because unfortunately we have no olives on the trees this year.
Drought and high temperatures, strong southerly winds and climate change are the causes of this.
It is now November and it still hasn't rained since early April this year, and then there certainly wasn't enough water to survive a long, scorching summer.
Not only us, but also many other farmers in our area have the same problem and the future does not look so optimistic in that respect. Many olive trees have withered due to prolonged drought and no longer produce anything. In order to repair the damage to these trees, they would all have to be cut down to just above the ground and then start growing all over again. This recovery process will take years.
Fortunately, our trees have not withered because we water them and keep them alive. It is now clear to see in the area which trees are watered and which are not. As a result, the production of olive oil in our area will decrease drastically in the coming years, which will cause the price of olive oil to increase enormously. Fortunately, there is some harvest in some parts of Crete this year and not, like last year, nothing at all in the whole of Crete. Unfortunately, olive oil is becoming increasingly scarce and expensive.
For a few years now, we have built up our webshop and our small company in the Netherlands, where we sell our own olive oil. We have put our heart and soul into it. We are proud of the result, but unfortunately we have to conclude that it is not enough. The costs are too high and the income too low. That is why we have had to make the unpleasant decision to close our webshop.
This does not mean that we will no longer produce olive oil, because nothing could be further from the truth. We still have our olive groves in Crete, and we will keep them. The olives, if they are there, are simply picked by us, and olive oil is produced. If we no longer transport to the Netherlands, the oil produced is sold in Crete to the cooperative.
The decision to close our webshop has come as a shock to many of our regular customers and the question our customers have is: what about us? Where can we buy our olive oil that is just as good as yours?
In order to offer our customers an alternative, we have decided to close the webshop but, if there is sufficient interest from our customers, to continue with our company in the Netherlands. This has to be done in a different way, a way that costs less and gives less work than the current way, so that both we and our customers can be satisfied.
Our plan is:
Convert the webshop into just a website where we inform our customers and interested parties about our product. Once a year you have the opportunity to order your oil that you use/need in 1 year from us in the packaging that you want. I will send you a personal email about this in December with the options and prices. You can then place your order via this email. Based on the invoice that we send you by email for your order, you pay/deposit the money into our account yourself, no other payment options such as Pay-Pal - Ideal - credit card etc. are offered anymore.
The order is paid in advance by you because we do not have the financial means to advance the amount for your order and only let you pay upon delivery of your order. You must and can trust that we will actually do what we promise. Of course, you will receive a confirmation of payment with the promise that the oil will be delivered to your home in mid-February. This information will also be recorded in our general terms and conditions, which you as a customer can always fall back on and which we must also legally fulfill our promises. Is the amount too high for you as a customer to pay in one go? Then we can make a personal arrangement with you that can work for both of us, for example by agreeing on a fixed amount per month.
In January, when oil production is in full swing, I buy fresh olive oil for you in Crete from a reliable farmer, who works just like us and produces the same quality olive oil as ours. Do we have our own harvest? Then we pack and send our own oil, but for the coming season this is not possible and I can only offer to buy and send oil for you.
Please note! You can only order olive oil once a year in the above manner, and not as now via the webshop a number of times a year. We will not send any more packages in the future, you will not be able to order oil in between.
In this way we save on many items such as:
- Webshop costs
- Payment transaction costs
- Packaging costs
- Renting a storage space
- Transport costs
- Labor time costs
In this way we also work in a much more environmentally friendly and sustainable way, namely less packaging, shipping, and therefore also fuel.
This way it is possible for us to continue with our company, and for you as a customer you can be assured of your delicious honest olive oil on the table and not a mixed unreliable factory product. Because the fraud in olive oil is only increasing given the scarcity.
